Traditional Braces
Traditional braces have come a long way since they first became available and are still one of the most popular choices among orthodontists worldwide for those looking to improve their smiles. From what they are, how effective they can be, and what the process of getting them is like, Dr. Ciro Cabal of Lake Country Orthodontics can answer your questions so that you make an informed decision about whether metal braces suit you.
When discussing braces, metal braces often come to mind. This style of braces is composed of wires, elastic bands, and brackets that are cemented directly to each tooth for gradual orthodontic movement.
Many patients think that orthodontic treatment can only occur during childhood or adolescence, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. As you age, you might notice subtle shifts in your teeth as they become more crowded, crooked, or misaligned. By investing in adult braces, not only can Lake Country Orthodontics improve the appearance of your smile, but we can also ensure our teeth stay healthy and functional for years.
Are you considering braces but not sure how metal braces work? If so, you’re not alone. Many parents and adults alike are curious about the step-by-step process of setting up a perfect smile. Well, here at Lake Country Orthodontics, we have the scoop on everything there is to know about metal braces and what to expect from our orthodontics team.
During your first appointment, Dr. Cabal will thoroughly examine your smile, learn more about your health history, and might suggest a dental X-ray. This comprehensive assessment will guide the decisions made regarding your orthodontic treatment.
When you come in for your traditional braces fitting, our experienced team will carefully prepare your teeth. This includes polishing, conditioning, air-drying, and priming your teeth to ensure optimal bracket placement. Then, the brackets are cemented to the enamel in the precise positions required, with any excess cement gently polished away. Once the brackets are in place, Dr. Cabal will carefully thread and secure the dental arch wires and elastics to better ensure successful treatment.
Regular visits to the orthodontist's office are necessary for adjustments throughout the braces process. These appointments are crucial to track the progress of your smile’s alignment journey. Also, Dr. Cabal will remove and replace wires and elastic bands at these periodic appointments as needed.
While many believe straightening teeth are solely for cosmetic purposes, straight teeth play a crucial role in oral health. Without proper alignment, teeth can become harder to clean, increasing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. Additionally, misaligned teeth can put unnecessary pressure on our jaw, causing discomfort and further dental issues.
