How Invisalign® Repositions Your Smile

fort worth invisalign alignersIf you have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this could not only impact the beauty of your smile, but this could mean poor oral health too. Which is why you may need orthodontics to correct the position of your teeth. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about Invisalign® and clear smile correction!

The Benefits of Correcting Uneven Smiles

When you have an uneven smile, this could impact the appearance of your smile and also your own levels of self-confidence. But more than that, poor alignment could impact your oral health and bite function. You could develop tooth decay and gum disease as thorough brushing and flossing is more difficult, and the pressure on your jaw joint could increase the risk of issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To maintain good oral health and an attractive smile, you may need to undergo orthodontic treatment. Fortunately, we have a cosmetic option that is nearly invisible!

Crafting Custom Plastic Aligners

To get started, our team will thoroughly examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment. If we decide Invisalign® is the right choice, we will then use the iTero® system to gather detailed digital images quickly and comfortably, combining them to create a 3D computer impression. In a lab setting, experts will use the images to design and craft a series of plastic aligners. When these are ready, you will begin treatment that could offer a straighter smile in as little as one year for adults, or about 18 months for teens. The exact time of course depends on the cause and severity of your misalignment.

The Invisalign® Process

With the Invisalign® process, you will wear a set of aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day on average, for a period of about two weeks. After which, you will begin wearing the next set for the same amount of time, continuing the process until you obtain optimal results. You will need to clean and soak them regularly, and they can also be removed before you brush and floss, making good oral hygiene easy to maintain. Being removable also means you can take them out before meals, so you don’t have to alter your diet during the treatment process. If you have any questions, then contact our team today.
