Creating Orthodontics With Digital Imaging

fort worth itero technologyAt one time, physical impressions were needed to design the treatments we use to correct misalignment. But these had major limitations! Which is why we go with a digital alternative. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about creating orthodontics with a digital imaging technology known as iTero®.

Physical Impressions

In the past, designing the orthodontics used to correct your uneven smile required a physical impression of your teeth. To get this, a patient would need to bite down on a metal mold filled with a gooey material. They could have to hold this bite for several minutes, and the process often needed to be repeated to get an acceptable impression. Obviously, not an ideal process. Fortunately, we’ve opted for the digital alternative, which provides better results!

Digital iTero® Imaging

With the iTero® system, we begin by using a small wand with a digital camera at the end to take pictures of your smile from multiple angles. We can use the wand to gather these quickly and comfortably, without headaches or spending too much time in the chair. The images will then be combined to create a detailed 3D computer impression, one far more accurate and precise than a physical mold. With this, we can design and fabricate the materials and appliances necessary to address your smile in a shorter time frame, and provide better quality treatment.

Creating Your Orthodontics and Aligners

We could use these to create the clear Invisalign® aligners that shift uneven smiles and provide straighter results. Our team could also use them to craft the ceramic brackets that make metal braces less visible during the treatment process. For kids, we can custom-make retainers and even space maintainers to help guide their smiles and limit poor alignment in the teen and adult years. Our team can also design and craft oral appliances to treat TMJ disorder and bring relief from jaw pain and headaches. Regardless of the treatment or the severity of your misalignment, we can offer comfortable and precise results with digital technologies.
