Placing Tooth-Colored Brackets

fort worth clear bracesWhen you wear braces, this could offer straighter smiles even if you have severe misalignment. But we know that many teens and adults may not be excited about wearing metal braces. To offer a more cosmetic approach, we could use tooth-colored brackets. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks tooth-colored ceramic brackets!

Braces and Smile Correction

Braces are a great way to address severe misalignment and offer our patients straighter smiles, so they can smile with confidence and enjoy better oral health too. The process involves attaching metal brackets to the front of each tooth. We then connect a portion of a thin arch wire to each bracket with a band, and we may use bands to connect the upper and lower set of braces. During regular visits to our office, we will adjust the tension in the arch wire, which begins to shift the teeth into optimal positions, with an even smile possible in about two years. But we also have a more cosmetic approach to metal orthodontics.

Ceramic Options

We could use ceramic instead of metal to create the braces. Ceramic is a strong and durable material, one that is translucent like enamel and that can be shaded to blend with a tooth. For this reason, dentists often use the material to create crowns and even replacement teeth. Using these brackets limits the visibility of your braces, as the only metal is now the thin arch wire. We often prefer these for the upper set.

Benefits of an Even Smile

Treating your misalignment offers a number of benefits for your smile. For example, you can have an easier time brushing and flossing, which lowers the risk of bad breath, teeth stains, and even tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, this prevents tension on your jaw joints, which could otherwise increase the risk of painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You can also feel good about the appearance of your smile, so you never hesitate to show off your pearly whites.
