When you wear Invisalign® aligners, you’re enjoying a clear treatment that’s barely noticeable. In addition to being nearly invisible, these aligners can be removable too! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the benefits of removable braces, and the long-term benefits of correcting misalignment.
The Invisalign® Treatment Process
Let’s talk about treating misalignment with Invisalign®. We will examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your malocclusion, and to decide whether Invisalign® is right for your smile. If so, we need to create the custom aligners. To do so, we use the iTero® system to gather a series of detailed digital images from multiple angles, which we combine to create a 3D impression. We use the impressions to design and craft the aligners, as each is custom-made for your smile. You then wear a set for about 20 to 22 hours daily, with the exact time depending on our recommendations. At two weeks, a new set is worn and the process continues until you have an even smile, usually about a year in most cases.
Removing Your Braces
Along with being nearly invisible, you can take them out! Which means you don’t have to avoid certain foods or worry about particles becoming stuck on your orthodontics, as you can simply remove them. This helps lower the risk of cavities. Likewise, being removable means you can take them out before you brush and floss. As a result, cleaning your teeth is much simpler and during treatment you have a lower risk of cavities, stains, and periodontal issues. As long as you wear them for the amount of time we recommend, you can also take them out for special occasions, such as dates, graduations, and job interviews.
Treating your malocclusion offers a number of long-term benefits. Obviously, you will feel more confident with a straighter smile. In addition, you will have a lower risk of tooth decay and gum disease as brushing and flossing is now much simpler. Treating malocclusion also eases pressure on your bite balance and jaw joints, so the risk of complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding) is lower as well.
