Poor alignment could cause problems with the health, function, and the appearance of your smile. To offer treatment, we have more than just braces or retainers. In fact, we have a cosmetic option! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we treat misalignment with Invisalign®, and who benefits from this cosmetic approach.
The Treatment Process
How does Invisalign® treat an uneven smile? Instead of using metal brackets or wires, our team will take detailed digital images of the smile and combine them into a 3D computer model, one far more accurate and precise than a physical one. This enables the aligners to be crafted specifically for your smile. The patient then wears a set for about 20 to 23 hours a day on average, over a period of about two weeks. After which, whey will then move on to the next set in the series and repeat this process. This gradually and gently shift the teeth into proper position.
Teens
We can offer this option for teens once all of their permanent teeth have erupted and the enamel properly calcified. These offer a less visible treatment option, one that makes teenagers feel more comfortable. There are also indicators on the aligners that wear away if they’re being worn properly, so you can monitor your teen’s usage. For most, optimal results take about 18 months, as their smiles are still growing and developing.
Adults
Adults also prefer this option because it doesn’t impact their professional appearance as much. In addition to being clear in appearance, they can be removed before you eat or brush/floss the teeth, so your daily life is much simpler. No need to avoid meals or worry about stains and decay. They fit comfortably too, and treatment could take as little as one year in some cases.
If you would like to see if this is right for you or a member of your family, then contact our team to schedule a consultation. So, we can examine the smile and decide if this is the right choice. If you have a severe case of misalignment, then don’t worry, with braces we can use ceramic brackets to make them less visible. If you have any questions about either Invisalign® or braces with ceramic brackets, then contact our team today to learn more.
