Starting Invisalign® Before School Starts

fort worth invisalignOnce the new school year begins, families will have more hectic schedules. Which means if you or your teen have been interested in Invisalign®, then now is a great time for the initial consultation. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about starting the Invisalign® process before the new school year begins.

Getting Ready for School

Once school begins, between classes and extracurricular, students in high school and college will have little time for multiple dental visits, and the same goes for teachers. Which is why now is a great time for an initial consultation. Before school begins, we can examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, and decide which treatment is best for you. If we decide on Invisalign®, we can then gather detailed digital images from multiple angles, which we combine into a 3D computer impression. The impression is used in a special lab setting to design and create your aligners! You can then start the treatment process once school starts.

The Invisalign® Process

The Invisalign® process is a simple one, and one that requires fewer office visits, so less chances to miss school. Essentially, you will wear a set of aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day, over a period of two weeks. At which point you will upgrade to the next set in the series. This process takes up to a year for most patients, while more severe cases of misalignment may require around 18 months. They can also be removed before meals, so no worries about changing how you eat. Being removable also means an easier time brushing and flossing during treatment too!

Long Term Benefits

By taking steps to correct your misalignment, you can help lower your risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as your teeth will be easier to brush and floss. You can also have a lower risk of tooth stains and bad breath, as more effective cleaning means less plaque buildup. Even smiles also spare the jaw joints of strain and stress lowering the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding).
