Every smile is unique, which means that we offer a customized approach to orthodontic care for kids, teens, and adults. As part of this process, we use advanced digital imaging technology. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the benefits of the iTero® digital imaging system, and how this creates custom treatment options.
The iTero® System
The iTero® system replaces the need for physical impressions as part of the orthodontic process. In the past, a metal mold would be filled with a sticky material. The patient would bite down and hold this bite for several minutes, and the process usually had to be repeated multiple times to get a viable impression. It was annoying and the material always tasted bad.
With the digital alternative, we instead use a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand to gather detailed images from multiple angles, which we can combine to create a 3D model of your smile, one that is far more precision and accurate than the physical ones. Your orthodontics can be better tailored for your smile and offer option treatment.
Our Orthodontics
We could use this to help design retainers and teeth spacers for children as part of their first phase of treatment. For teens and adults, we can create ceramic brackets to make braces less visible, and to craft a series of Invisalign® aligners, so treatment is possible with clear braces. No matter your age or the extent of your misalignment, we can offer a custom approach to straighten your smile and improve your overall oral health, so you avoid issues like cavities, gum disease, TMD, bruxism, and other complications associated with uneven teeth.
Oral Appliances
We can also use this option to provide oral appliances too. In addition to correcting misalignment, our team can also help people with TMJ disorder. TMJ problems develop when the joints connecting the jaw and skull become strained and tressed, leading to painful symptoms and issues opening and closing the mouth. An oral appliance is a device that fits like a mouthguard and corrects the tension. This can also be used to prevent damaged if the patient grinds his or her teeth due to TMD.
