We’re Here To Treat Orthodontic Emergencies

fort worth orthodontic emergency treatmentWhen you have a serious emergency issue with your smile’s orthodontics, such as damaged braces or loose wires, you should contact our team right away. Otherwise, this could grow more severe and eventually threaten your smile! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about treating these emergency situations.

Common Emergency Situations

Common examples of orthodontic emergencies could include loose or missing brackets, loose wires, or cracked/broken plastic aligners. You could also have major discomfort with your braces or with your headgear. Essentially, any damage or pain that interrupts your treatment and could slow or reverse progress you’ve made. You should give us a call, even outside of normal business hours. We can arrange a time to see you and offer treatment.

How To Ease Discomfort

If you have a wire causing pain, then use the erase end of a pencil to push them down and away from the gums and cheeks. You can then coat them with wax. If a bracket is loose, then wax could keep it in place. If a bracket or band is completely loose, place it in a container and bring it with you to the office. If an aligner is fitting poorly or causing discomfort, then you can coat the area in wax to prevent further discomfort until you can see us. While initial discomfort following adjustments or starting new orthodontics is common, if this persists for more than a day then you should let us know right away.

Dangers of Not Contacting Our Team

Lack of attention could mean this interrupts your treatment progress. This means it will take longer to reach optimal results, and you could lose the progress you’ve made so far. If you have any questions about addressing common emergency situations, then contact our team today. Summer is a great time to contact our team for treatment, as we can help children, teens, and adults enjoy more even and healthy smiles, with braces that use tooth-colored brackets, clear Invisalign® aligners, or even custom retainers and teeth spacers.
