When you want to find the right solution for your malocclusion, you should talk to our team. In addition to common options like retainers and braces, we can shift teeth into proper position with clear cosmetic aligners. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about Invisalign® aligners.
Your First Consultation
The first consultation is a chance to see if this is the right option for you. Our team will talk to you about your smile and your hopes for it, and we will discuss previous dental or orthodontic treatments. We then sit you down and take a close look at your smile with advanced digital imaging systems. This enables us to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, so we can choose the best treatment option. For many teens and adults, this can include treatment with the Invisalign® process. If so, we will begin the process by creating a series of clear plastic aligners!
Creating Custom Orthodontics
To create the aligners, we will need to use the iTero® system to gather a series of detailed digital images of the teeth from multiple angles, which we do with a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We combine them to create a 3D computer model, one far more accurate and precise than traditional physical impressions. In a lab setting, this information is used to design and craft the aligners from a BPA-free plastic. Each set is custom-made for your smile, so they can provide a comfortable treatment process.
The Treatment Process
The treatment process involves wearing a set of these aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, for about two weeks at a time. At which point you then upgrade to the next set in the series. You continue this until you obtain optimal results, which is usually a year for adults, or a year to 18 months for teens. The aligners can be removed before meals or brushing and flossing, which makes your daily experience much easier. You can also take them out for special occasions, as long as you wear them for the amount of time the orthodontist recommends.
A straighter smile means a more attractive one, and a lower risk of tooth decay, infection, and even periodontal issues. If you have any questions about Invisalign, then give us a call today!
