Braces are not often viewed as a very cosmetic way to correct misalignment. But to make them less visible, and more friendly toward our teen and adult patients, we could use lifelike ceramic brackets. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about our tooth-colored braces and how they improve oral health.
Correcting Smiles with Braces
Braces are a great way to tackle more severe cases of dental misalignment. Correcting your smile helps lower the risk of cavities, gum disease, and even TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding). The process involves attaching brackets to the front of each tooth. For each arch, a portion of a thin wire is connected to the brackets. During regular visits to our office, we will adjust the tension in the arch wires to begin shifting the teeth gently and gradually into their proper positions, which could take 18 months to 2 years on average. This helps create a straighter, healthier, and more attractive smile.
Creating Ceramic Brackets
While very effective, many of our teen and adult patients would rather have a less noticeable option. If they don’t qualify for Invisalign®, which we will talk about in the next section, we can make braces less visible by using ceramic brackets instead of metal ones. Designing them with the iTero® system, they will be made to blend with the smile seamlessly and offer a more attractive appearance. Your braces are then much less obvious! We can also use advanced Propel® Accelerated Orthodontic technology to lower the total entrapment time, often by as much as 50%.
Clear Aligner Systems
Our team can also offer a more cosmetic option for qualifying patients. This doesn’t need metal brackets or wires at all, instead, we use a series of clear aligners. Each set is custom-made for your smile, and the aligners fit over your teeth comfortably. This is a practically invisible option to help teens and adults alike, and they can also be removed for maintenance, or to make eating and brushing/flossing easier. We will examine your smile and assess the state of your smile with advanced technology, so we can choose the best cosmetic option for your smile.
