The Tech We Use To Straighten Your Smile

fort worth orthodontic technologyWhen we plan and implement orthodontic treatment for our patients, whether for kids, teens, or adults, we use all kinds of advanced technologies. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we use everything from digital scanning to accelerated orthodontic systems to correct smiles and offer stunning results!

I-Cat Imaging Systems

When we examine your smile, we need to be able to accurately assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, and also identify the positions of the teeth to accurately plan the treatment process. To do so, we use computerized tomography technology. The I-Cat system enables us to capture a broad and detailed image of your jaw, teeth, and oral structures. We can then use these to plan your treatment, choose the right option, and ensure optimal results.

iTero® Digital Impressions

We don’t use physical impressions at all to design your orthodontics and appliances. Which means no need to bite down on a metal mold filled with sticky material. Instead, we will use a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand to gather images quickly and comfortably from multiple angles. The iTero® system enables us to combine these images to create a 3D computer impression, one far more accurate and precise than physical ones. This process is faster, convenient, and more comfortable for our patients. We use this to design tooth-colored ceramic brackets to make braces less visible. We also employ these impressions to craft clear and comfortable plastic aligners for those receiving Invisalign®. For kids, we can create retainers and for those suffering from TMJ disorder, a special appliance to restore bite balance and ease strain on the jaw.

Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics

Treatment to correct the smile often requires a time commitment of several years. The reason for the long treatment times, which could be up to two years, is because the jawbone actually needs to grow and reform around the new positions of the teeth. To help reduce the treatment time, often by 50%, we could offer the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system. This option uses a small hand-held device that you take home and wear in your mouth for five minutes a day. The device then emits gentle vibrations to encourage the growth of bone tissue around the teeth, cutting down on time needed to address misalignment.
