Using Advanced Technology For Invisalign®

fort worth invisalign technologyInvisalign® is a cosmetic option for correcting malocclusion, shifting teeth into optimal positions. We can use these to help teens and adults alike correct their dental misalignment. But how do we create these aligners, and what technology will we use? In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the iTero® system.

iTero®

In the past, creating a dental impression meant we needed to fill a metal mold with a stocky and poor-tasting material, and you would bite down on it and hold that bite for several minutes. Often, the process had to be repeated to get a viable impression. It was a pain for all involved. But we don’t use these anymore, we’ve gone digital! Instead, a tiny camera at the end of a very thin wand is used to gather a series of images quickly and comfortably of your smile from multiple angles. We then combine them to create a detailed 3D computer model of your smile. This digital impression created with the iTero® system enables our team to create a series of Invisalign® aligners.

The Plastic Material

The material we use is a BPA-free plastic material, which is completely clear in appearance. The material and the custom-nature of the aligners means a comfortable fit, one that frees you of the gum and cheek irritation often encountered with metal braces. We want your orthodontics to not only be practically invisible, but to fit comfortably and offer care with precision and accuracy as well.

The Treatment Process

Once we’ve used advanced technology to design and craft your orthodontics, what happens next? Well, you start your journey to an even smile! Essentially, a set is worn daily for between 20 and 22 hours a day, and over the course of about two weeks. At the end of that two weeks, you start wearing the next set in the series and this process continues for about a year to 18 months on average. Although with Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, we could potentially cut this treatment time down significantly.
