We recently talked about how malocclusion could impact the health and function of your smile, and why orthodontic treatment could be necessary. Which is why in today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist wants to look at how we correct uneven teeth in childhood, teen years, and for adults too.
The Initial Exam
Everything starts with the initial consultation and exam. At this visit, we will discuss your oral health habits, how you feel about your smile, and your dental history. Then, we use advanced digital imaging systems to obtain x-rays and other images quickly and comfortably, with a fraction of the time and radiation required for traditional systems. These are incredibly detailed and we can examine them chairside along with you, so you understand the factors behind your misalignment and what treatments will be necessary. Every smile is different and will require a unique approach, so we always personalize our treatments.
Childhood Orthodontics
We don’t just offer care for adults, we can help kids as young as age seven too! We start at seven because there is a mix of primary and permanent teeth, and we can better gauge the factors behind misalignment and plan proper treatment. We take a phased approach, and the first stage involves the use of retainers to help shift the teeth and limit the severity of misalignment as they grow. We could also use teeth spacers too, which keep the gaps open when a baby tooth is lost prematurely, so the permanent teeth can erupt properly, limiting poor alignment in the future.
Teen Treatment
The teen years are essentially the second phase of treatment. When all of the permanent teeth have arrived and properly calcified, we will move forward with metal braces for many causes, or Invisalign® aligners for more minor ones. This completes treatment and straightens the smile. We can also offer care for teen patients who never received the first phase of treatment too.
Helping Adults
Adults also benefit from cosmetic orthodontics as well. We can use tooth-colored ceramic brackets to make metal braces less visible, and of course Invisalign® aligners are a clear and cozy option as well.
