People often think of orthodontic care as something that occurs in the teen years. But we can help people of all ages enjoy even smiles, even if you’re an adult! You’re never too late to treat your malocclusion, and your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist can offer cosmetic options to make your orthodontics less visible.
The Initial Visit
Have you always wanted to address your malocclusion? Then don’t put it off, schedule a consultation with our office. When you arrive, we will talk to you about your smile concerns and also examine your teeth and oral structures with digital x-rays and CT imaging. This enables us to identify the cause and assess the extent of your misalignment, so we can provide treatment tailored to your smile. We often correct these concerns with braces or aligners, providing a cosmetic approach to make you feel less self-conscious during your treatment. Remember, even teeth lower the risk of serious oral health issues that could otherwise develop, such as cavities, gingivitis, gum disease, and even jaw joint disorders like TMD or bruxism (teeth grinding).
Braces
Braces are an excellent way to correct more severe cases of misalignment. We start by attaching brackets to the front facing side of each tooth. For each arch, we connect portions of a thin wire to the brackets with a band. During the visits to our office, we will adjust tension in the wire to begin shifting the teeth gradually into proper positions, correcting misalignment in about two years on average. However, we know that many adults worry about the impact on their appearance. Which is why instead of metal, we could craft the brackets from ceramic. This means they can be color-matched to blend with the tooth, and we can attach the arch wire with a clear band as well. This helps limit the visibility of your braces!
Invisalign®
We could also offer a clear treatment option with Invisalign®. With this option, we don’t use brackets or wires at all. Instead, we custom-make a series of aligners from a clear plastic material, which is barely visible. A set is worn for two weeks, 20 to 22 hours a day. You then begin wearing the next set in the series, with this process continuing for about a year, or up to 18 months for those with more severe cases.
