Metal braces may not be the most popular choices for correcting misalignment, but they’re effective and can help teens and adults alike with more severe malocclusion. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still offer a cosmetic option. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about our tooth-colored ceramic brackets.
The Benefits of Braces
Braces can help teens and adults enjoy straighter smiles, even if they have severe misalignment. The treatment process involves attaching brackets to the front sides of each tooth. For each arch, we connect a portion of a thin wire to each bracket with a band. The orthodontist will then adjust tension in the wire to begin shifting the teeth into proper positions, gradually correcting misalignment over a period of about two years. We could also discuss shorter time frames with Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, which encourages the growth of bone tissue around the new positions of the teeth to shorten treatment times.
With braces, you obtain an even smile and reduce your risk of cavities, gum disease, TMJ disorder, bruxism, and more, while also enjoying an esthetically-pleasing appearance.
Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets
The brackets placed onto the teeth are usually made from metal, making them obvious in appearance. But! We could craft them from ceramic instead. A durable material that is translucent like natural enamel, ceramic is often used by dentists to create crowns and even replacement teeth. We can shade this material to blend with the rest of the tooth. To create them, we take detailed images of the smile with the iTero® system, and then combine them to make a 3D computer model. This replaces the need for physical impressions. Using this information, we create the tooth-colored ceramic brackets and then affix them to the teeth.
What About Invisalign®?
We also have a cosmetic option that doesn’t use metal brackets or wires at all. Invisalign® aligners are completely clear in appearance and made from a BPA-free plastic. This means they’re barely visible when worn! If you want to know which one is right for you, then contact our team to schedule a visit. With a consultation, we will examine your misalignment and decide on the best treatment option, so you can obtain a clear and attractive smile. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, then contact our team today to learn more.
