Tooth-Colored Brackets Mean Less Visible Braces

fort worth tooth colored bracketsWhen you need braces to correct your misalignment, then you may assume metal options are the only way to move forward. But we could offer a less visible option with our ceramic brackets, which are shaded to be tooth-colored. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about cosmetic options.

The Impact of Your Uneven Teeth

Why should you consider treatment for your uneven teeth? Misalignment could allow food particles to remain trapped in your smile, even if you brush and floss, which leads to tooth decay and gum disease. The uneven nature of your smile could strain jaw joints and upset bite balance, so painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding) could develop. For some, the impact of malocclusion could limit breathing at night so sleep apnea is more likely as well. To improve the beauty and infection of your smile, and protect your overall health too, you need to seek treatment with orthodontics.

Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets

If you need treatment and we decide on braces, which are often beneficial for more severe cases, then we will make them less visible with ceramic brackets. To begin, we will use the iTero® system to gather detailed images of your teeth quickly and comfortably with a digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We then combine these to create a 3D computer impression of your smile. Using this in a lab setting, we will create brackets that blend with the smile. Ceramic is strong and translucent like enamel, so we can shade it to look natural when placed onto the front facing sides of your teeth. This often makes our teen and adult patients feel better about wearing braces.

How do we use this option to correct misalignment? Once we attach the tooth-colored brackets to the teeth, we will connect a portion of an arch wire to them with a brand. During regular visits to our office, we then adjust tension in the wire to begin repositioning the teeth. For some, optimal results take as little as two years, but we could cut this time down with Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics. If you have any questions about how we treat misalignment with a more cosmetic approach, then contact our team today to learn more. We ‘re here to help your family enjoy even and healthy smiles!
