Is Your Smile Invisalign® Ready?

fort worth invisalignWhen you have uneven smiles, this could mean serious problems for the health and beauty of your smile. But that doesn’t mean you have to use metal braces for an even smile. In fact, for qualifying patients we could use the Invisalign® system. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about treating uneven smiles with clear aligners.

Who Qualifies for Invisalign®?

Who makes a good candidate for this orthodontic treatment? To find out, we will take a close look at your smile with imaging technology. This allows us to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, and what levels of treatment will be necessary. For teens and adults with more minor misalignment, we can offer improvement with clear aligner instead of metal braces.

What Happens Next?

Once we approve you for this treatment, we will gather detailed digital images of your teeth with the iTero® system. This involves taking pictures with a tiny camera at the end of a thin wand, so we can capture images from multiple angles comfortably. We then combine them to create a 3D computer impression. The impression enables us to design and craft aligners with precision and accuracy. When they’re ready, you start treatment by wearing a set for 20 to 22 hours a day. After about two weeks, you move on to the next set in the series. This process continues for about a year for adults, and up to 18 months for teens.

Wearing Your Custom Aligners

They need to be worn each day as the orthodontist prescribes to ensure optimal results in the original time frame we’ve discussed. You can even remove them before a meal! This means unlike with braces, you don’t have to avoid certain foods or worry about particles becoming trapped in your orthodontics. Being removable also means the process of brushing and flossing is much easier, as you no longer have to work around your metal brackets and wires. This process also means fewer office visits, aligners that fit comfortably, and of course, a clear road to a straighter smile.
