Have You Considered Removable Orthodontics?

fort worth invisalignMetal braces are affixed to your teeth and cannot be removed. While effective for treating misalignment, this could also impact how you eat and even the brushing and flossing process. But what if we could offer a removable option? In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the benefits of Invisalign® aligners.

The Convenience of Removable Braces

With metal braces, you have to be careful about what you eat. Foods that are sticky and chewy could become trapped in your orthodontic, and increase the risk of tooth decay and gingivitis. In addition, hard foods could potentially damage your braces. You also find that brushing and flossing is a bit more involved as you now have to work around your metal brackets and wires. But with Invisalign®, you simply take out your braces before your meals and before cleaning your teeth, as they’re in the form of removable clear aligners. This makes your day-to-day experience much simpler!

Creating Invisalign® Aligners

We start with an exam and consultation, as we want to make sure this is the right option for your smile. Should you require braces instead, we can still offer a cosmetic option with tooth-colored brackets. If we decide Invisalign® is right for your treatment, then our team will take detailed digital images of your smile from multiple angles with the iTero® system. We gather these quickly and comfortably using a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We then combine them to create a 3D computer impression, one that enables us to design the aligners with precision and accuracy. When they’re complete, you can start the treatment process!

The Treatment Process

Treatment will involve wearing a set of aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day, with the exact time depending on the orthodontist’s recommendations. After two weeks, you move on to the next set in the series. This process continues for about a year for adults, or up to 18 months for teens or those with more severe cases of misalignment. The system requires fewer office visits, provides a comfortable treatment experience, and the aligners are easy to clean.
