Braces are not often thought of as cosmetic, but by using ceramic for brackets instead of metal, our team can offer a less noticeable version. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we offer a cosmetic approach, and how we create brackets that blend with your tooth seamlessly.
Poor Health and Misalignment
When you have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this can impact much more than the esthetics of your smile. Uneven teeth provide places for food particles to become trapped, and even if you brush and floss daily, they could remain in place, leading to an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Uneven teeth also strain your jaw joints and upset bite balance, factors that often lead to painful disorders like TMD or even chronic teeth grinding (bruxism). You could also simply feel embarrassed about your smile. Fortunately, we can correct the alignment of your smile with a cosmetic approach.
The Benefits of Braces
Braces are a great way to treat advanced cases of dental misalignment, offering straighter smiles and better oral health. We begin by attaching metal brackets to the front facing sides of each tooth. We then connect a portion of a very thin arch wire to these brackets with bands. The orthodontist could also use additional bands as part of it too. The orthodontics will adjust the tension in the arch wire, which begins moving the teeth. The jawbone reforms around the teeth as they’re repositioned, until after about two years the patient has a much straighter smile!
Tooth-Colored Ceramic Brackets
To make them less visible, which our teen and adult patients often prefer, we can use ceramic to create the brackets instead of metal. This material is very strong and durable, but can also be color matched to blend with the smile. For this reason, dentists often use ceramic to create crowns and replacement teeth. We custom-make them for your smile, and then attach the arch wire to them with clear bands. Your braces are then much less visible, helping you smile with confidence throughout the treatment process.
