When you have misalignment too severe for Invisalign®, then you may need braces to correct your smile. That doesn’t mean we don’t have a cosmetic option for those with braces! With tooth-colored brackets, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist can help shift the position of your teeth with less noticeable braces.
The Use of Braces
Metal orthodontics help correct more severe cases of malocclusion, such as situations too severe for Invisalign® aligners or retainers. The process involves our team attaching brackets to the front facing side of each tooth, and then connecting part of an arch wire to each bracket with a band. There could be additional bands as well. We then adjust the tension in the wire to begin moving the teeth into better positions, gradually correcting misalignment over a period of two years on average. We could recommend these for teens and adults. If your child has already completed the first phase of our interceptive orthodontics, then the time wearing braces is often reduced.
Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets
Typically, the brackets will be made from metal. But our team could also take a cosmetic approach by using ceramic. This is a durable material, one that is also translucent like tooth enamel. For this reason, dentists often employ it to create lifelike replacement teeth for bridges and dental implants, or crowns to provide natural-looking repair. We will use the iTero® system to gather detailed images of your smile quickly and comfortably, using a tiny digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We then gather images from multiple angles and combine them to create a 3D model. This allows us to design and craft the brackets with detail and precision. We then affix them to the teeth and connect the wires to begin treatment.
The Benefits for Your Oral Health
A straighter smile could mean you feel more confident when you laugh and smile, or pose for pictures. But the benefits are far from just cosmetic. For example, treatment could provide a balanced bite and prevent jaw joint strain, so you’re less likely to develop painful issues like TMJ disorder or bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). Even teeth are also easier to clean, so the risks of tooth decay and gum disease fall too! If you have any questions, then give us a call today.
