We Offer Cosmetic Orthodontics

fort worth cosmetic orthodonticsWhen you think about orthodontics, do you picture metal braces? While we do offer braces, we also take a cosmetic approach to ensure your orthodontics blend with your smile and are less visible. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we provide a cosmetic touch with our braces and aligners.

When Do You Need Orthodontics?

We prescribe orthodontics when you have dental misalignment, as malocclusion could upset your bite balance, strain your jaw joints, and lead to poor oral health. When you have crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth, this could make thorough brushing and flossing difficult and provide places for food particles to become trapped. As a result, you have a higher risk of cavities and gum disease. The strain on your smile also leads to greater risks of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel self-conscious about your smile, which impacts your quality of life too! We can treat misalignment in the teen and adult years, and provide a phased approach for kids starting as young as age seven.

Tooth-Colored Brackets

Braces are a great way to correct more severe cases of misalignment. But they’re also pretty obvious and may make you feel self-conscious. To make them less visible, our team could offer a cosmetic approach. Instead of using metal for the brackets we affix to the front-facing sides of the teeth, we use ceramic. This material is strong, but also translucent like tooth enamel, and can be color-matched to blend with your teeth. Dentists often use them to create crowns and replacement teeth for the same reasons! Portions of an arch wire will then be connected with a clear band. If you need braces, this could be the cosmetic approach that makes you feel better about treatment!

Invisalign Aligners

For some patients, we could forgo braces completely and instead shift the teeth with a series of clear, comfortable, and custom-made aligners. Crafted based on digital images and measurements taken of your smile, a set is worn daily for 20 to 22 hours, and then a new set is worn every two weeks or so. This means a straighter smile in as little as a year, with a clear and removable approach!
