Invisalign For Our Teen Patients

fort worth invisalign for teensInvisalign means a clear and cosmetic approach to correcting dental misalignment. In addition to helping adult patients, we can also correct smiles in the teenage years. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we help smiles of all ages enjoy better health, function, and beauty, often with a clear approach.

Treating Misalignment in the Teenage Years

If your child started treatment at a young age with our interceptive orthodontics, then they’ve likely been wearing a retainer, and in the teen years will complete their treatment with braces or Invisalign aligners. But even if this isn’t the case, we can still help your older children correct their smiles before adulthood. After all, an even smile could help them reduce their risk for tooth decay and gum disease, avoid TMJ disorder and bruxism, and even be less likely to suffer from sleep apnea as an adult. To begin, we will take detailed digital images and x-rays of the smile, so we can assess the cause and severity of their misalignment. From there, we can create a treatment plan to correct their uneven smile.

Custom Invisalign Appliances

For some, we could correct misalignment using Invisalign aligners. These are often a favorite, as they involve the use of clear aligners to shift the position of the teeth. Each set in the series is custom-made for their smile, crafted based on the digital impressions created with the iTero system, meaning there is no need to bite down on molds from a physical impression. This allows us to design aligners with greater precision and accuracy. They will also fit comfortably!

The Treatment Process

The treatment process is a fairly simple one. Your child will wear a set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, the exact time depending on the orthodontist’s recommendation. After two weeks, people will upgrade to the next set in the series. This continues for between a year and 18 months, depending on the severity of your teen’s misalignment. The process requires fewer office visits, and your child can remove them before a meal, so there is no end to alter their diet. In addition to not avoiding certain foods, your teen also has an easier time brushing and flossing too, as he or she can remove aligners instead of working around metal brackets and wires.
