A Phased Approach to Care
We’re ready to see kids as young as age seven, so if their general dentist has mentioned developing misalignment, or if you notice uneven portions of their smile, consider an appointment. At this page there is a mix of baby and permanent teeth, so we can better assess the severity of misalignment and decide on the best course of treatment. To make this assessment, we will carefully examine the teeth with digital scanning technology and x-rays, providing a clear and detailed picture of their entire smile chair side, and allowing us to make a more thorough diagnosis.
Retainers and Teeth Spacers
For children, we take a phased approach. This means in the early stages, we use specific care to help not only treat misalignment, but help guide the growth and development of the jaw and smile to prevent the issue from growing more severe. This also reduces the treatment time necessary in their teen years. For kids, we may suggest a custom-made retainer or teeth spacers, each one custom-fitted for the smile.
Braces and Aligners
When your child reaches their teen years, we will begin the next and final pages of their treatment. Instead of interceptive retainers and teeth spaces, we will select either braces or clear Invisalign aligners to begin shifting the teeth into their final positions. Kids often prefer Invisalign as it is almost invisible, but for those with braces we can use ceramic brackets, which are tooth-colored to reduce the visibility of braces and make them less noticeable.
