How We Create Tooth-Colored Brackets

Fort Worth ceramic bracketsIf you have dental misalignment, then braces could help correct the size and give you a straighter and more attractive smile. However, that could mean wearing brackets and wires to accomplish this. To make the process easier for teens and adults, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will limit the visibility of orthodontics with tooth-colored brackets.

Brackets and Braces

How do braces help correct uneven smiles? The process means attaching a bracket to the front of each tooth in your smile. An arch wire is then connected to them, with a portion attached to each one with a band. Once all the hardware is in place, we will adjust the tension in the wire to begin shifting the teeth. We continue this process over the course of about two years, as the teeth shift into optimal positions and you gain a straighter and more attractive smile. However, to make them much less visible, we could use ceramic instead of metal for them.

iTero and Ceramic

To create the brackets, we will take detailed images of your smile with the iTero system, which uses a small digital camera at the end of a thin wand, so we can gather several images from multiple angles in a quick and comfortable manner. The images will be used in a dental lab to design and craft the brackets. Ceramic can be color-matched to blend with the tooth, and is translucent like tooth enamel. In fact, dentists often use the same material to curate natural-looking crowns or replacement teeth. We then affix these to the front of each tooth, and use a clear band to connect them. Teens and adults then enjoy treatment that is nearly invisible.

How a Straighter Smile Helps

Having a straighter smile means you can easily brush and floss thoroughly, which limits the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The process also helps restore balance to the smile and prevents tension in the jaw joints, so TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding) can be avoided. You also feel more confident, and will smile and laugh without hesitation!
