The iTero® system is what our team uses to help design and craft your orthodontic treatments, from Invisalign® to our TMJ appliances. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we use this advanced digital scanning system to improve your oral health and smile beauty!
The Old School Method
At one time, creating an impression meant that we filled a metal mold with a sticky material. While this material claimed to have flavors, most would agree they were not very flavorful. The patient would bite down on the mold and hold this bite for several minutes. Often, the process had to be repeated to get a good physical impression. However, we’ve been digital for a long time now, and that offers a number of benefits for our patients!
The iTero® System
With the iTero® system, we use a digital camera set at the end of a thin wand is used to take detailed images of the smile from multiple angles. This is done quickly and comfortably. Next, we combine the images to create a 3D model of your entire smile. The images and measurements in this mold enable our team to design and craft orthodontics with precision and accuracy. No more physical molds, no more biting down on molds, and a much faster process with more accurate results.
Invisalign® and More
We use the impression and images obtained from the iTero® system to create our Invisalign® aligners, ensuring they not only fit well, but also correct the position of the teeth with better precision. For those wearing braces we use the images to create ceramic brackets, which blend with the tooth and offer a cosmetic alternative to traditional braces. For people with TMJ disorder, we can craft an oral appliance that is worn at night and repositions the jaw to ease strain and prevent worsening symptoms. This also helps protect teeth from damage related to teeth grinding or clenching. If you have any questions about how we use this system to design orthodontics and appliances for people of all ages, then please contact our team today to learn more.
Now is a great time to see us, as you could use your 2021 dental benefits before they expire at midnight on December 31st. These could help you on your journey toward an even and healthy smile!
