In addition to treatment for children, we can also address misalignment for our teen patients too. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about how we help teenagers enjoy more even and healthy smiles with a series of clear aligners, or possibly braces with tooth-colored dental brackets.
Choosing the Right Treatment Option
Everything starts with an initial exam. We want to assess the cause and extent of your child’s misalignment, so we can choose the best treatment option to correct misalignment. Using iTero® digital imaging technolgoy and digital x-rays, we can look at the teeth, roots, and jaw and oral structures. The images allow us to plan treatment with accuracy and precision. For patients who have undergone phased orthodontics since childhood, this is the last step of the process. But even if your teen hasn’t undergone treatment until now, we can still help correct misalignment.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is a very popular choice, and we will find out if this is right for your child. We don’t use metal brackets or wires at all! Instead, we take detailed digital images of the smile, which will be used in a lab setting to design and craft a series of clear plastic aligners. Each set is then worn daily, usually between 20 and 22 hours a day. After two weeks, you upgrade to the next set in the series. For some teens, treatment takes between a year and 18 months. However, we could also help shorten treatment times with Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, which employ gentle vibrations to stimulate the growth of bone tissue around the new position of the teeth, cutting treatment times in half for some patients.
Tooth-Colored Brackets
If your child requires the use of braces to correct misalignment, we still take steps to ensure a less noticeable treatment expire. Instead of metal brackets, we create them from ceramic, which can be shaded to blend seamlessly with the tooth. We then connect an arch wire to the brackets with a clear band. This limits the visibility of your orthodontics, and could help you enjoy an even and beautiful smile. If you have any questions about treatment, then let us know. Seeing us now is a chance to start care before the busy holiday season begins, and you can put your 2021 dental insurance benefits to good use!
