Tooth-Colored Brackets Help Braces Blend

fort worth cosmetic bracesWhen you have a major cause of misalignment, then your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist could offer treatment with metal braces. We know most people prefer not to wear braces, but to make them more palatable we can use ceramic brackets. In today’s blog, we’re talking about how we make your metal braces much less visible.

The Treatment Process

Braces are an excellent way to address more severe cases of misalignment, offering a straighter smile and better oral health. Treatment begins with the orthodontist attaching metal brackets to the front of each tooth. Portions of a thin arch wire will then be connected to the brackets with a band. During regular visits to the office, we will adjust the tension in the wire, which begins to shift the teeth into optimal positions. Throughout the process, the bone tissue and gums reform around the new portions of your teeth as you approach a straighter smile. For some, this could take about two years to see optimal results!

Creating Your Ceramic Brackets

To make them nearly invisible, we don’t use metal for the brackets. Instead, we use the iTero® system to take detailed images of the teeth, which we use to help design and craft brackets made from ceramic. This material can endure bite forces and pressure, but it is also translucent like tooth enamel and can even be shaded to blend with the teeth we’ve attached them to. As a result, they look like part of your tooth. We then connect the arch wire with a clear band, so the only metal is the very thin wire. Your orthodontics are then almost invisible!

Benefits for Your Oral Health

Taking time to correct your smile means you have a lowered risk of tooth decay and gum disease, and also a reduced chance of TMJ disorder and bruxism, as your smile is now properly balanced and easy to brush and floss. You also feel more confident when you smile, which helps make a great first impression. If you’re worried about the time commitment, talk to our team about Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, which involves a small device that emits gentle vibrations to encourage the growth of bone tissue around the new positions of your teeth. For some, this could cut treatment times nearly in half! If you have any questions about how we offer a straighter smile for families in our community, then contact our team today.
