Replacing Physical Impressions With Digital Technology

fort worth technologyWe take steps to create your orthodontics or appliances with precision and accuracy, ensuring quality treatment for kids, teens, and adults. Part of this involves using a digital system to replace the old school physical impressions. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist talks about the iTero® system!

The Physical Impressions

To create orthodontics or appliances that fit comfortably and also provide quality care, they need to be custom-fitted for your smile. At one time, this meant we needed to create 3D physical impressions. We would fill a metal mold with a sticky material, and a person would bite down on them and hold this bite for several minutes. If the resulting impressions were less than perfect, the process could need to be repeated. No one enjoyed this, and we opted for a digital alternative a long time ago! Doing so has offered treatment with greater precision and accuracy.

A Digital Alternative

With the iTero® system, we use a tiny digital camera that is set at the end of a thin wand. We then gather images of the teeth from several angles quickly and comfortably. This convenient process allows us to create several images and then combine them into a single 3D model of the entire smile, one that is incredibly detailed and accurate. We can then use the information in a lab setting to design and craft the treatment we use for our patients. They will fit better, improve overall treatment, and save time spent in the office. This is convenient for all parties involved!

Creating Aligners and Appliances

Using the iTero® system, we can create the clear aligners used in the Invisalign® system, and craft tooth-colored ceramic brackets to make metal braces less visible. For kids, we can craft phased orthodontics such as teeth spacers and retainers. We also offer TMJ therapy to treat TMD and bruxism, so you avoid damage to your smile and uncomfortable symptoms like headaches and jaw pain. If you have an uneven smile, or the symptoms of issues like TMD, then contact our team today. We would love to schedule a consultation and start you on the path toward a stronger smile. Scheduling a visit now means you can use your benefits before they expire, and start the process before the hectic holiday season begins.
