Who Qualifies For Invisalign® Aligners?

fort worth invisalignWhen you have a smile with uneven teeth that crowd or overlap one another, treatment is necessary to correct your malocclusion. Otherwise, you could develop serious complications with your oral health. Instead of using braces, our team could employ Invisalign® aligners. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will talk about who qualifies for these clear braces.

Assessing Your Misalignment

First, we need to understand the factors behind your misalignment. To begin, we will use advanced digital imaging technology and x-rays to gather images of your teeth, gums, roots, and oral structures. From there, we can assess the cause and severity of your uneven teeth. For severe cases, we may suggest metal braces, but we can limit visibility with tooth-colored ceramic brackets and clear bands. For most cases of misalignment, we could recommend the use of our clear Invisalign® aligners.

Treatment for Teens and Adults

We offer treatment for both teens and adults. For both, we can correct the position of the teeth using a series of aligners crafted from a clear plastic material. Adults can usually expect to see optimal results in as little as one year. Teens, who have smiles still growing and developing, could see results in about 18 months. However, we can also employ advanced technology in the form of the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system to limit treatment time, cutting it in half for some patients.

The Invisalign® System

Essentially, we create a series of plastic aligners based on the digital impression we create of your smile with the iTero® system. In a lab setting, the orthodontics will be designed and crafted. A set of aligners is then worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, removed only for meals or before brushing and flossing your teeth. You can also take them out for special occasions as well. After about two weeks, you move on to the next set in the series, and continue this process for a year to 18 months to see optimal results. We will monitor you in periodic visits, but overall, you require fewer office visits too. They will not only be nearly invisible, but crafted to fit comfortably as well.
