Assessing Your Misalignment
First, we start with a consultation. We want to discuss your goals for your smile, and also take a good look at your teeth. Using digital x-ray and I-Cat images, we will be able to assess the factors behind your misalignment and also the overall severity. From there, we will decide the best course of treatment. For many teens and adults, this could involve the Invisalign® system instead of traditional braces. If so, then we will move forward with the creation of your custom plastic aligners.
Digital Impressions
The iTero® imaging system gather detailed digital images using a tiny camera at the end of a thin wand. As a result, we gather images quickly and comfortably. We combine them to create a 3D computer model of your smile, one that allows us to design and fabricate a series of aligners that will be custom-fitted for your smile. Each set is made using a BPA-free plastic material that fits comfortably and is also completely clear, so your braces will essentially be invisible.
Starting Treatment with Your Finished Aligners
You then start your treatment! At home, you will wear a set of these aligners for between 20 and 22 hours a day, removing them for cleaning and soaking, or before meals or brushing and flossing. As long as you wear them the way the orthodontics prescribed, you can also take them out for special occasions. After about two weeks, you upgrade to the next set in the series. This process will repeat for a period of a year to 18 months, and during sporadic visits we will monitor your progress to make sure you’re hitting key milestones. Treatment provides an even and healthy smile, helping you avoid complications down the road.
