Orthodontic emergencies could mean chipped or cracked teeth, or sudden unexplained pain. But if you wear braces or other orthodontics, you could also face emergency situations that impact treatment. If you have damaged braces or aligners, then you should let your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist know right away.
Braces
If you have braces and a wire is loose, this could cause discomfort. To ease discomfort until we can see you, use the easer end of a pencil to push the wire gently down and away from your cheeks and gums. Then coat the wire in wax. You could also do this if there is minor discomfort once you first receive your orthodontics. If a band is loose, or a bracket, you can place wax to keep them in place, or if they come out completely, put them in a sealed container to bring with you when you see us for care. Remember, solutions for an emergency are essential to prevent complications with your treatment progress.
Aligners
If you’re undergoing the Invisalign® treatment, and a set of your aligners is cracked or broken, then let us know. If you’re close to moving on to the next set, you may be able to do that. If this happens early in the stage of wearing this set, then let us know. We can create a new set quickly so you can continue your treatment without interruption. We still want you to obtain optimal results in the original time frame!
Headgear
If you have headgear or a retainer that doesn’t fit comfortably, let us know. Initial discomfort is to be expected, but if this persists you may be wearing them incorrectly, or they may need adjustments. Don’t try to live with discomfort or stop wearing your appliances, instead let us know right away. Our goal is to ensure you obtain the results necessary to improve the health and beauty of your smile, in the timeframe you discussed with our team. Accidents and injuries happen, but they shouldn’t stand between you and the smile you want! Now, in between your injury or damaged appliances and when you see us, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever to help ease discomfort.
