Do You Want To Learn More About Cosmetic Orthodontics?

fort worth cosmetic orthodonticsJust because you have misalignment and need orthodontics, that doesn’t mean a cosmetic approach isn’t possible. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist wants to help you understand why correcting misalignment is important, and how we offer a cosmetic approach with ceramic brackets or clear aligners.

Choosing Your Treatment

When you correct an uneven smile, you help improve the overall beauty of your smile, but also limit the risk of common oral health issues like tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and bruxism (teeth grinding), all of which can be linked to malocclusion. But how will we choose the right treatment option for you? To begin, we will take a close look at your smile with I-CAT imaging technology and other systems to understand the cause and assess the extent of your misalignment. Afterward, we can select the best option to address your misalignment.

Tooth-Colored Brackets With Braces

Braces are not known for their cosmetic appearance, as they involve putting metal brackets onto the front facing sides of each tooth, and then connecting a portion of an arch wire to them with a band. However, to make them less visible we could use a ceramic bracket instead of a metal one. Ceramic is a very strong material, but one that can be shaded to match your surrounding tooth structure. That’s why dentists often use them to create crowns and replacement teeth, such as bridges or implant restorations. The result is a bracket that matches your teeth, with the thin arch wire being connected using a clear band. Your orthodontics are much less visible, and we can begin addressing your misalignment. We usually reserve braces for more severe cases.

Invisalign® Aligners

We also have another cosmetic option for our teen and adult patients. Invisalign® involves wearing a series of aligners, each set being worn for 22 hours a day over the course of two weeks. Total treatment time varies, usually falling between a year and 18 months. The aligners will be clear and nearly invisible, and you can remove them before you eat or before brushing and flossing your teeth.

If you have misalignment and would like to find a solution, then contact our team to schedule a consultation. We’re ready to help you enjoy a straighter and healthier smile, with a cosmetic approach that doesn’t impact your professional appearance!
