As much as we wish we could, we cannot correct misalignment overnight. Sometimes, a serious time commitment is necessary to obtain stunning results, improving the health and beauty of your smile. However, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist does have options to help reduce how long it takes for your braces and aligners to create optimal results.
How Long Correcting a Smile Takes
What kind of time commitment are people looking at? That depends on the extent of your misalignment. With braces, we attach tooth-colored ceramic brackets to the front of the teeth, and then connecting a portion of an arch wire to them with a band. We then adjust tension to being repositioning them. With Invisalign®, we use a series of clear plastic aligners to gradually shift the teeth into position. These options are effective, but braces may need two years to see optimal results. With clear aligners, adults could see results in a year, but teens may need around 18 months on average. Often, the time-consuming part is waiting for the bone tissue to regrow around the new positions of the teeth, which secures them in their new positions.
Following Your Orthodontist’s Directions
Invisalign® aligners could shift the teeth quickly, but if you don’t wear them as we prescribe, or if you take them out too frequently, then this could slow your progress. The same could occur if you’re not moving onto to the next set in the series every two weeks as scheduled. With braces, if you fail to see us for adjustments and routine visits, this could also slow progress. You would be surprised to find out long not following instructions could delay your journey to a straighter smile!
The Propel® Accelerated Orthodontic Systems
To help with the process and shorten treatment times, then our team could discuss the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system. We will send you home with a small decide, which is worn in your mouth for about five minutes each day. The device emits gentle vibrations that encourage the growth of bone tissue around your teeth, often cutting treatment times in half for some patients. The device is easy to use, clean, and store, and could help you achieve optimal results faster.
