What Should I Do If My Braces Break?

fort worth emergency orthodonticsBraces are strong, but that doesn’t mean that wires and brackets can’t come loose or break, or that your aligners couldn’t crack. What should you do when you break your braces? We suggest seeing your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist for emergency treatment!

Responding to an Orthodontic Emergency

How you respond immediately could help save a lot of discomfort until you can see us for treatment. If a wire is loose and causing discomfort, then use the eraser end of a pencil to push the wire down and away for the gums and cheeks. You could cover it with wax too! If a bracket is loose, then use wax to keep it in place. If an aligner is cracked or broken, you can use wax to ease discomfort. If headgear doesn’t fit well and causes pain, then stop using it and see us right away. You can also take over-the-counter pain relievers as well.

Don’t Ignore the Issue

With orthodontic emergency care, we can see you for treatment even if an issue arises outside of normal business hours. Simply give us a call and we will set a time to see you quickly and offer care. Remember, damaged braces or aligners, or uncomfortable headgear, could interrupt your treatment process and slow your journey to an even smile. Don’t let damage or an injury prevent you from obtaining the smile you deserve, or slowing your progress.

We can See You!

Remember, even if an issue occurs outside of our normal business hours, there is still a chance we could see you soon!

Protecting Your Smile

To help prevent injury, be sure you wear a mouthguard when you play sports to avoid cracked, chipped, or broken teeth, or damaged braces or aligners. Make sure you clean your aligners regularly, and also take time to brush and floss around your orthodontics. Routine care helps protect your orthodontics, and also helps safeguard your smile against issues like tooth decay and gum disease. If you have any questions about your orthodontics, or if you find yourself facing an emergency issue, then contact our team right away. We want to help you enjoy optimal oral health, and a comfortable treatment experience.
