Could Clear Aligners Correct My Uneven Smile?

fort worth invisalignWith a series of clear aligners, we could provide a solution for minor or extensive dental misalignment, all without relying on braces. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will talk about how we correct uneven smiles, and how we create clear and comfortable aligners that are custom-fitted for your smile.

The Benefits of Treating Misalignment

Misalignment is obviously a cosmetic issue, one that could make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. But uneven teeth could also cause problems for your oral health too! Teeth that are crooked, overlap, or crowd one another make thorough brushing and flossing a difficult process. Food particles could remain trapped for bacteria to break down, increasing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath, and even teeth stains. For others, poor alignment could strain the bite balance and jaw joints, boosting the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). When you treat misalignment, you enjoy optimal oral health and an attractive smile too!

Creating Custom Aligners

The Invisalign® process doesn’t use metal brackets or wires. Instead, we will need to create a series of custom-made aligners from a BPA-free plastic material. We start by taking detailed digital images and measurements of your smile. This information is used in a lab setting to design and craft the aligners, ensuring each one is fitted for your smile and helps gradually and gently correct your smile.

The Invisalign® Process

Treatment involves wearing a set every day for between 20 and 22 hours, over a period of about two weeks. At this point, you will upgrade to the next set in the series. The process improves your smile over the course of about a year, although teens may need up to 18 months as their smiles are still growing and changing. The process requires fewer office visits too! Since the aligners can easily be taken out for cleaning and soaking, you can also remove them before you eat, so no particles become trapped in your braces. Being removable also means brushing and flossing is much easier, so you can better care for your smile and avoid stains, tooth decay, and periodontal disease during your treatment.
