When you have crooked or crowded teeth, or if they overlap one another, then you may benefit from orthodontic treatment. For more severe cases, we may suggest braces. But don’t worry! Your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist is able to provide a cosmetic approach to ensure your metal braces will be much less visible.
Correcting the Position of Your Teeth
How do they correct the position of the teeth? We start by attaching brackets to the front-facing sides of each tooth. Next, we attach a portion of an arch with a band. Once the orthodontics are in place, we will adjust the tension in the wire to begin shifting the teeth into proper alignment. Usually, this process takes about two years. However, we can often shorten the treatment time significantly by using Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics, which employs gentle vibrations to stimulate the growth of bone tissue.
Creating Tooth-Colored Brackets
To make them less visible, we will use ceramic instead of metal to create the brackets. Ceramic is a strong and durable material, one that is translucent like tooth enamel and that can be color-matched to blend with your smile. In fact, dentists often use the same material to create crowns and replacement teeth that look and function like natural ones. The tooth-colored brackets will be designed and created using advanced digital technology, ensuring a proper fit. We also shade them to blend seamlessly with your smile, so your orthodontics are much less visible! Clear bands could also be used to secure the arch wire to them.
Caring for Your Smile
You will see us for routine visits to adjust tension and monitor the treatment process. However, you will still need to see your dentist to have your teeth cleaned every six months, combating harmful plaque and tartar buildup. At home, you will need to brush in the morning and again at night, and floss thoroughly too. This can be a bit complicated at first, as you need to work around your orthodontics. But these are still crucial for avoiding issues like teeth stains, tooth decay, and gum disease during your care. If you have any questions about how we use braces to correct uneven teeth or about our cosmetic approach, then contact our team today to learn more. We would love to see you and your family, and offer quality care to straighten teeth and improve oral health.
