The Custom and Clear Aligners
The treatment doesn’t rely on metal brackets or wires at all. Instead, a series of aligners that fit snugly over the teeth will be worn. Each set is designed to move the teeth slightly, and over the course of a year to 18 months, your teeth could be strained and misalignment corrected. Each set is custom-made for your smile based on the clear and detailed images we gather with the iTero® digital scanning system. As a result, each set is custom-made and fitted for your smile, and designed to continue the process of smile correction. At the same time, each set is clear, so your orthodontics are nearly invisible when worn!
Creating the Aligners
As we mentioned above, we start by taking a series of digital images with a small camera attached at the end of a thin wand. This allows us to gather multiple images from several angles quickly and comfortably. We then combine them to create a 3D model, one that is more detailed than traditional physical impressions. We create the series of aligners and then provide them to you or your teen so the treatment process can finally begin. Remember, correcting misalignment is about more than just esthetics. Even teeth are less likely to develop tooth decay, and your smile is more likely to avoid gum disease, TMJ disorder, and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding).
The Treatment Process
Basically, you will wear a set for between 20 and 22 hours every day. The exact time will depend on the severity of your misalignment and your orthodontist’s recommendations. After about two weeks, you start wearing the next set in the series. The process requires fewer office visits, saving time and money and limiting pressure on your hectic schedule. The aligners can be removed before meals or before you brush and floss too.
