When you have a broken bracket or wire, or experience other orthodontic emergency issues, then you could develop an interruption in your treatment that leads to major problems. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist discusses how to address your emergency, and how we help repair your braces or aligners.
Damaging Your Braces and Other Orthodontics
When you have an issue that breaks or damages your orthodontics, this halts the rate of treatment. Not only will your process slow, but your teeth could even revert to a previous position, depending on when and where this talks place in your smile or treatment. Common examples of issues to alert us about include loose or missing brackets, loose wires, cracked or broken aligners, or poor-fitting retainers or headgear. You should let us know when these issues occur, so we can offer repair and prevent further discomfort or interruptions to your treatment progress.
You can take immediate steps to help address the issue and prevent further discomfort until we can see you. For example, if a wire is loose, use the eraser end of a pencil to gently push it down and away for your gums and cheeks. You can then coat it in wax. In addition, if after receiving braces for the first time the brackets use discomfort, you can also coat them in wax until your smile adjusts.
If a bracket or band comes off, place it in a sealed container and bringing it with you to the office. If a bracket is loose, wax could help keep it in place until we can see you. If a retainer or aligner has a broken or cracked portion, wax can again ease discomfort. You should also give us a call; we may suggest avoiding use until we can replace the orthodontics. If a headgear is fitting poorly, let us know. We could suggest methods of adjusting it, or make sure the device is being worn correctly.
