Invisalign® Means Clear Smile Improvement

fort worth invisalignWith the Invisalign® process, we don’t need metal brackets to help our teen and adult patients enjoy even and healthy smiles. Instead, we use cosmetic aligners that are barely visible! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will explain how we create aligners and reposition your smile, often in as little as one year.

The Benefits of Correcting Misalignment

When we have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this could mean serious trouble for our overall oral health. For example, food particles could become trapped between the teeth, out of reach for your toothbrush and floss. The risks of tooth decay and gum disease then rise with time. Uneven smiles also upset bite balance and place pressure on the jaw joints, which in turn increases the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Not to mention the impact on the beauty of your smile and your self-confidence! Fortunately, treatment with orthodontics could help.

The Invisalign® Approach

The Invisalign® system doesn’t use metal brackets or wires at all to reposition the smile. Instead, the patient wears a series of clear aligners. Each set is custom-made for your smile, crafted based on the digital images we gathered with the iTero® digital scanning system. The result is a comfortable fit, which corrects the position of the teeth with precision and accuracy. You also enjoy treatment that is barely noticeable! We could suggest this for teens and adults alike.

What to Expect from Treatment

Frist, you will undergo a consultation so we can examine your smile and discover the best treatment option for your smile. If this is Invisalign®, we will use the iTero® system to take a series of pictures with a digital camera at the end of a thin wand. The images will let us create a 3D computer impression, which will be used in a special lab to design and craft your aligners.

When you start treatment, you will wear a set for about 20 to 22 hours a day. After around two weeks, you will move on to the next set in the series. This process will continue for about a year to 18 months, as your smile is gently repositioned. We could also recommend the Propel® Accelerated Orthodontics system to reduce overall treatment times.
