Correcting Misalignment For Children

fort worth interceptive orthodonticsWe don’t just offer orthodontic care for teens and adults. We also help improve the alignment of smiles in childhood, including for kids as young as age seven! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will talk about how we correct misalignment for children, and the benefits this offers them in their teen and adult years.

Starting Care at a Young Age

How early should your little one to see an orthodontist? The ideal time is once the baby teeth have begun to fall out and permanent teeth are erupting, so we can gauge the state of the smile and the likelihood or misalignment and imbalance in the future. For this reason, we suggest a visit as early as age seven. At this stage, we can identify the earliest stages of dental misalignment, and create a personalized treatment plan to address these concerns. If your child begins to show signs of uneven teeth, let us know!

The Interceptive Approach

We start with an initial exam, in whish iCat and iTero® digital scanning technolgoy to carefully assess the state of the smile. We look at the teeth, and the roots, jaw, and oral structures, to assess the factors behind uneven teeth. With an interceptive approach, we start treatment with teeth spacers or possibly a retainer, to begin guiding the growth of the smile and reducing the severity of alignment issues and imbalance. The appliances or orthodontics we recommend will be designed based on the detailed digital images we gather of the smile, offering care that is precise, accurate, and comfortable. We also discuss ways your child can better care for his or her smile!

Continuing Care for Older Children

As your children grow older and start their teen years, we will likely begin final phase of their treatment. At this stage, we could recommend braces or Invisalign® aligners. With braces, we address more severe cases of misalignment, but we craft the brackets from ceramic instead of metal, which ensures they blend with the smile. Invisalign® aligners are also completely clear and barely visible. We want your child to obtain better oral health and a more attractive smile, without undergoing major changes to their appearance during the process.
