When you have a more severe case of misalignment, then your oral health could suffer with time. However, with braces we could correct the position of your teeth, so you enjoy better oral health and a more attractive smile. However, we can also do so with braces that blend with your smile! In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will discuss tooth-colored brackets.
The Value of a Straighter Smile
First, straighter teeth will obviously improve the beauty of your smile, which could bring a renewed sense of self-confidence and help you feel more at ease in social situations or when meeting someone new. But the benefits don’t stop there. Correcting misalignment has been shown to help improve the health and function of your smile. For example, correcting uneven teeth improve smile alignment and balance, lowering the risk of painful disorders like TMJ disorder or even chronic teeth grinding (bruxism). Treatment also helps prevent food particles from becoming trapped beyond the reach of your toothbrush, so you avoid issues like tooth decay and even gum disease!
Creating Ceramic Brackets
For people with more severe cases of misalignment, we may suggest using braces to correct the position of the teeth. However, may teens and adults feel hesitant, worrying about the impact of wearing metal braces on their appearance. But we can help limit this visibility with ceramic. A strong material, ceramic can be color-matched to blend with your smile. In fact, dentists use this material to create lifelike bridges and replacement teeth. Instead of affixing a metal bracket to your teeth, we will craft from ceramic. The tooth-colored brackets will then be connected with a very thin metal arch wire, which is attached with clear bands. The results are braces that are barely visible!
The Treatment Process
During periodic visits to our office, we will adjust the tension in the wire to begin moving the teeth. Gradually over time, the teeth will be moved into optimal positions, as dental jawbone tissues and gums will reform around these new positions to ensure your smile is stable and even. The total treatment time will depend on the cure and extent of your misalignment, but could fall between 18 months and 2 years. If you have any questions about how we help address uneven smiles in the teen years or adulthood, or how we start the process for young children, then please contact our team tokay.
