When you have uneven teeth, this could mean poor oral health and a less-than-attractive smile. To offer straighter teeth without relying on metal braces, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist could correct your smile with the Invisalign® system. These orthodontic aligners will be clear, but will they fit comfortably? Who qualifies for them?
Designing Each Set
The aligners fit snugly over your teeth, and each set will gradually and gently move teeth into new positions, and correct misalignment. However, the key to a comfortable fit and treatment with precision is the custom-made nature. To create them, we take detailed digital images with the iTero® scanning system. The images are taken with a small digital camera at the end of a thin wand, so we capture multiple images from various angles with ease. We then combine them to create a 3D model. At a special lab, the models and digital images allow experts to begin creating a set of aligners from a BPA-free plastic that is also comfortably clear!
A Comfortable Treatment Process
Once your clear braces are ready, you will begin wearing a set for about 20 to 22 hours a day, depending on your recommendations. After about two weeks, you will start wearing the next set in the series. The process will continue like this, as each set gradually moves your smile toward a straighter state. We will keep an eye on your progress with periodic visits, and for adults, optimal results could be possible in as little as one year. Since teenagers still have smiles that are growing and developing, the process could take between a year and 18 months. However, the key to a short treatment time is to wear them as we prescribed!
The benefits are not just limited to a clear appearance and shorter treatment time. In fact, they can actually be removed before meals, so you don’t have to alter your diet or worry about bits of becoming stuck in your orthodontics. Being removable also means the process of brushing and flossing is simpler too, so you keep your smile strong and healthy throughout the treatment.
