Have you ever wondered about correcting your uneven teeth, but have concerns about the impact of metal braces on your appearance? Well, good news! Your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist can offer a series of clear aligners made from a BPA-free plastic material to correct misalignment. In today’s blog, we’re answering common questions about them!
Question: Are they really clear?
Answer: Yes! Each one is crafted from a BPA-free plastic material, one that is completely clear. Which means that when worn, your aligners will be nearly invisible. For our patients, this makes them feel less self-conscious throughout the treatment process.
Question: Will they fit comfortably?
Answer: Of course! There is no one-size-fits-all option, which means each set is custom-made based on digital impressions and images we take of your smile. The result is not only a comfortable fit that prevents gum and cheek irritation, but treatment with precision and accuracy, as each set gradually and gently repositions the teeth to correct poor alignment.
Question: Who can wear them?
Answer: We recommend them for teens and adults. To find out if they’re right for you, our team will take a series of detailed digital impressions and measurements with the iTero® digital scanning system. After assessing the cause and extent of your misalignment, we will decide if clear aligners are the right choice. But don’t worry, even if you do require braces, we can use ceramic brackets to make them much less visible!
Question: Can I remove them?
Answer: Yes. This is a major benefit of the system. You don’t to worry about food becoming trapped in orthodontics, or about potential damage from certain food items. Instead, you simply take them out before each meal. In addition, caring for your smile is easier too, as you don’t have to work around brackets and wires with a toothbrush and floss, so you limit the risk of cavities, stains, poor gum health, and bad breath during treatment.
Question: How long does treatment actually take?
Answer: That depends on the cause and extent of your misalignment, and also whether you wear the aligners as the orthodontist has prescribed. But on average, adults take about a year to see optimal results, and teens around 18 months. Either way, this is much less than the time required to see optimal results with metal braces.
