Planning Your Treatment
First, we need to make sure the Invisalign® system is right for you. To do so, we need to carefully examine your smile, often employing digital technology, to identify the causes and assess the severity of your misalignment. Next, decide what the best course of treatment will be. If you have severe misalignment, we may suggest braces but will use lifelike ceramic brackets to make them less visible. If we choose Invisalign®, then we need to start the process of creating your custom-made aligners.
Creating Your Aligner Sets
First, we will take a series of images with an intraoral camera, which has a tiny camera is set at the end of a thin wand. We then gather multiple images in a matter of seconds, and do so comfortably. We then combine these images to create a detailed 3D computer model, a digital impression that lets us design the orthodontics with precision and accuracy. You don’t need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky material, as old school physical impressions are no longer necessary!
At a dental lab, the images and measurements we took will be sued in the design process. Each aligner will be created from plastic, ensuring it fits comfortably and will also be nearly invisible to your smile.
Benefits for Your Smile
The treatment process is simple. You will wear a set daily, usually somewhere between 20 and 23 hours a day. They can be removed before meals, so you don’t have to change your diet. Being able to remove them also makes brushing and flossing your smile much easier, as you don’t have to work around braces. Every two weeks, you will upgrade to the next in the series. Optimal results take about a year for adults and around 18 months for teens. Which means the total treatment time is shorter than is required for braces, and that you also need fewer office visits too!
