No smile is the same, which means there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to treating misalignment and improving your smile’s beauty and balance. To ensure you receive customized care, whether that means braces or aligners, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist employs digital scanning technology with the iTero® system.
The First Exam and Consultation
To start, we will schedule an initial consultation. We want to know what you would like to see from treatment, and we will also thoroughly examine your smile to identify the factors behind your misalignment and assess overall severity. Next, we will discuss your treatment options. For more severe cases, we may suggest either metal braces using ceramic brackets, or possibly clear Invisalign® aligners. For children, care may include teeth spacers or even custom-mad aligners. If we find signs of jaw joint strain and TMJ disorder, we suggest oral appliance therapy.
The iTero® System
Once we select the best course of treatment for you, we need to ensure the appliances, aligners, or brackets fit comfortably, ensure proper treatment, and also offer good esthetics if possible. To begin, we take digital impressions. Instead of biting down on a metal mold filled with a sticky material, we use a digital camera on the end of a thin wand to take a series of images quickly and conveniently. We combine these images on a computer to create a 3D digital impression, which is employed in a dental lab to help us design and fabricate your orthodontics. The technology enables us to design and craft them with precision and accuracy, ensuring a fit that shifts the position of the teeth while still preserving your bite balance and prevent jaw joint strain.
TMJ Appliances, Aligners, and More
For those with TMJ disorder, we create an oral appliance that fits like a mouthguard and is worn as you sleep. The device repositions the jaw to ease strain, and provides a barrier to prevent damage from teeth grinding. With Invisalign® aligners, we create a series of plastic aligners that are worn daily for 20 to 22 hours a day, with a new set worn every two weeks over the course of a year. For those receiving braces, we create lifelike ceramic brackets that blend with the teeth, and for kids we design properly fitting retainers and other appliances. If you have any questions about how we use iTero® to help improve your oral health and smile beauty, then contact our team today.
