The Convenience Of Removable Braces

fort worth removable bracesWhile metal braces obviously cannot be removed, we do have a unique treatment option that can be taken out! With the Invisalign® system, we help treat teen and adult patients with even teeth, offering a series of clear and comfortable aligners. In today’s blog, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist will discuss the benefits of a removable set of braces.

The Invisalign® Treatment Option

Traditional metal braces are affixed to your teeth, so you cannot remove them. While effective at correcting uneven teeth, this option also means a few complications. For example, you need to watch what you eat as certain foods could become trapped in your braces. You also have to take more time to brush and floss, as proper care means working around brackets and wires. However, if we find your smile could be corrected with Invisalign®, then we don’t use brackets or wires at all. Instead, we take detailed digital images using the iTero® system, enabling dental lab to design and craft a series of aligners with precision and accuracy. You then wear them to begin shifting your teeth into optimal positions.

Removing Your Orthodontics

Basically, treatment involves wearing a set of aligners daily for between 20 and 22 hours on average, then upgrading to the next in the series after about two weeks. Through the treatment process, the sets of aligners begin shifting the teeth gradually and carefully. For adults, an even smile is possible after about one year, while teens could take between a year and 18 months, depending on the extent of their misalignment. As long as you wear them for the amount of time the dentist recommends, you can take them out before meals. As a result, you don’t have to avoid certain foods or alter your diet. You also take them out before you brush and floss your teeth, which makes thoroughly cleaning them much easier, limiting the risk of cavities, stains, and periodontal issues during treatment. You also have the ability to take them out before special occasions too.

Benefits for Your Oral Health

While the convenience of correcting uneven teeth is clear, what about the overall impact on your oral health? Did you know that addressing your crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth could lower the risks of tooth decay, infection, gingivitis, gum disease, and even complications like TMJ disorder or chronic teeth grinding (bruxism)?
