We don’t usually think “cosmetic” when we think about braces, but in Fort Worth, TX, our team knows how to offer solutions for teens and adults that are esthetically-friendly, and also help improve the alignment and function of the smile too. In today’s blog, we’re going to take a look at clear Invisalign® aligners, and braces that use ceramic brackets.
Benefits of Treating Your Smile
First, let’s take a little time to talk about correcting misalignment. When we shift your crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth into optimal positions, this does much more than just improve the beauty of your smile. An even smile also reduces the risk of serious oral health complications, ranging from tooth decay and gum disease to jaw joint disorders like TMD and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). Treatment could save your smile from decay, disease, or even tooth loss.
Cosmetic Invisalign® Aligners
One cosmetic option for teens and adults is the Invisalign® system. We don’t use metal brackets at all, instead designing and crafting a series of clear plastic aligners based on the detailed digital images we take of your teeth and oral structures. Each set in the series of aligners is worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, for two weeks at a time. Over time, these sets gradually and carefully shift the teeth into optimal positions and correct misalignment, all while remaining practically invisible. You can also remove them before you eat or prior to brushing and flossing, so you don’t need to avoid certain foods and caring or your smile is much easier! The total treatment time is usually about a year for adults, or up to 18 months for teens.
Sometimes, we may find that misalignment is too severe to be handled with aligners alone. Instead, we need to use braces. However! That doesn’t mean we don’t have a cosmetic touch. Instead of affixing metal brackets to the front facing sides of each tooth, we will create them from ceramic. The same material used by dentists to create lifelike crowns and veneers, ceramic can be tinted to blend with your tooth. We then attach a portion of a thin wire to the color-matched brackets with a clear band, offering braces that are much less visible when worn!
