Most people don’t associate orthodontics with cosmetics. After all, braces tend to stand out when worn, right? Well, to help our teen and adult patients correct misalignment without having a major impact on overall appearance, your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist may suggest cosmetic orthodontics, such as tooth-colored brackets and Invisalign®.
Orthodontics Help Your Smile
The goal of orthodontics, whether that means retainers and teeth spacers for children, or braces and aligners for teens and adults, is to guide the growth of the smile and to correct the position of your teeth. Correcting uneven teeth not only improves smile beauty, but also helps restore bite balance and relieve pressure on the jaw joints. Brushing and flossing is also much easier. When we have an even smile, the risk of everything from tooth decay and gum disease to TMJ disorder and teeth grinding is significantly reduced, so you smile with confidence and avoid major complications down the road.
Braces That are Less Visible
For more severe cases, we may prescribe braces. You’re probably familiar with them, as they involve placing metal brackets onto the front sides of the teeth and then attach a portion of a wire to them with a band. The orthodontist then adjusts tension in the wire to begin moving the teeth. While effective, this does alter your smile’s appearance during treatment. Fortunately, to make them less visible we can create the brackets from ceramic instead of metal. Ceramic is strong, durable material that can be tinted to match the color of a tooth. For those reasons dentists often use them in dentures, bridges, or crowns. We then attach the wire with a clear band, so your braces are much less visible.
Completely Clear Aligners
We could also help with a series of clear aligners. Made from a BPA-free plastic, these will not only fit comfortably, but shift your teeth as well all while remaining completely invisible. They are also removable, so you take them out before you eat or before brushing and flossing your teeth, so you don’t need to avoid certain food items or worry about trying to brush and floss around brackets and wires. If you have any questions about our cosmetic approach, or if you would like to see which is right for you, then contact our team today to schedule a consultation. We’ll be happy to address any questions or concerns!
