Have you made any major New Year’s resolutions? Along with getting in shape or trying a new hobby, why not consider your smile? 2021 is a great time to seek treatment to correct your misalignment, and your Fort Worth, TX, orthodontist offers care for people of all ages. In today’s blog, we’re looking at our cosmetic treatments, and the solutions we offer for kids, teens, and adults alike!
The Dangers of Poor Alignment
Obviously, uneven teeth impact the overall beauty of your smile, and could be a source of embarrassment for some. However, that isn’t the full extent of the dangers posed by misalignment. In fact, crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth often make thorough brushing and flossing difficult, which in turn leaves places for food particles to become trapped. As bacteria break down and consume these particles, plaque buildup accumulates that increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. For others, uneven teeth could place strain on the jaw joints and cause bite balance, factors behind painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). Correcting your smile helps improve oral health and often brings relief!
Children’s Treatment
We can start treatment as young as age seven, at which point there is a mix of permanent and baby teeth, so we have an idea of the misalignment risk that is present and a chance to begin guiding the growth of the smile as well. With a phased approach, we start with teeth spacers and retainers to help guide the smile and limit the severity of poor alignment as your child grows. In turn, once they reach the teeth years, the amount of time needed to enjoy total smile improvement is much shorter.
Cosmetic Options
For our teenaged and adult patients, we have cosmetic options to correct misalignment without having a major impact on the overall beauty of the smile. For those with major cases of misalignment, we suggest braces. However, instead of using metal brackets affixed to the front-facing sides of the teeth, we use ceramic. As a result, the brackets will be tooth-colored. We then attach a thin arch wire to them with a clear band, which reduces the visibility of the orthodontics! We also have clear Invisalign® aligners, which shift the teeth over a period of about a year and remain practically invisible. If you have any questions about our treatment options, then contact our team today.
